Polar Bear Dip

It may be January 1st, but the weather is feeling less like winter. A warm push of air from the south has brought the temperature to a high of 12°C, and has brought light rain showers along the way. Hardly the setting for an icy polar bear dip…except perhaps for a bear caught in the throws of global warming. Nevertheless, it’s become an annual tradition for me, and so for the third year in a row I got sucked into braved the icy waters of Lake Ontario for a cool winter dip.

I don’t do well in the cold. In fact, despite being Canadian, I don’t even like winter at all. I tend to hibernate more than I should. Nevertheless, I managed to take the plunge into Lake Ontario last year on New Year’s Day (only through the proddings of a fellow fitness enthusiast), and this year I partook in the January the 1st ritual without any persuasion at all.
