It's been about 6 weeks since Steve Maxwell completed his two workshops in traditional club swinging at the StrengthBox. It was wonderful to work with Coach Maxwell, and on a personal level I got to know him quite well during his recent stay in Toronto. I have a feeling he will return!

As I'm sure you're aware, kettlebells are hardly new to the fitness world. They have been used in Russia and Eastern Europe for over a hundred years, and some suggest they may have earlier roots that can be traced back to the ancient Greeks. It's no wonder they've survived the ages: they are extremely versatile and effective for strength, size, endurance, explosive power, flexibility, balance and overall conditioning. No wonder that so many trainers are choosing to get certified as kettlebell instructors.

Once you add kettlebells to your workout, it's hard to go without them. They're inexpensive, completely portable, and hard to beat for developing core strength, power, stamina, endurance, and overall coordination. They can be used for size and strength programs (typical 5x5 routines) or in longer metabolic conditioning circuits like the one above.

This being the last weekend of the summer , the last thing on my mind was spending time indoors at a gym. Today I opted to train outside, a great idea no matter what the weather (although today was glorious)! Training outdoors doesn't mean endless jogs around the park or at the beach. I find one can be much more productive by finding a quiet space and working on some basic bodyweight exercises, combined with some adrenaline pumping drills.

Kettlebells are an excellent tool that work the entire body as a unit. They can help to increase your endurance and stamina, build raw strength, increase your power, challenge your flexibility and even your balance. I regularly train with them, and while there are literally hundreds of moves that you can do, I like to keep stick to the tried and true basics.
