Three, Two, One, GO!

Three, Two, One, GO!

Weekends are often amazing, but this past one really stood out!  Saturday, July 18th was the first ever CrossFit Ontario Challenge, a community competition that helped raise money for Juvenile Diabetes.  The event was organized be a couple of CrossFit gym owners (Jeff Morley of Conker Fitness and Mark Gleason of CrossFit Niagara), and came together with the help of Paul McIntyre of the Moss Park Armouries in Toronto, where the competition took place.

While I chose not to compete myself (perhaps next year?), I had volunteered my time as a judge.  And watching some of the athletes grind through their workouts with such intensity almost made me feel like I was working right along beside them.  As a CrossFitter myself, I know all too well the pain and mental barriers that you have to push through to get a respectable score on a workout.  Each athlete on Saturday was assigned their own judge to ensure that all the movements were performed to proper expectations, as well as a counter who kept track of reps and time.  Working as a team, the judge and counter guided the athlete through each event on the floor.

Sweat poured and blood trickled as calluses ripped and shins were scraped in deadlifts.  The intensity was through the roof, and the small crowd in attendance cheered the victors and those who tailed the pack in scores and times.  In fact, one thing that impressed me was the huge support for those who weren’t the top performers.

Huge props to the organizers, athletes and volunteers for putting on a great event.  Next year promises to be even bigger!

    Some great pics Greg!

So say next year, we both compete?

  2. Greg says:

Boris, you always talk me into stuff. Like the polar bear swim you ‘made’ me do on the same day as a brutal New Year’s morning CrossFit workout.

    Yeah, I’ll probably do it!

Talk you into stuff? I only “suggest” ideas that would be appealing to you and assist you in doing said activities if you so “choose” to do so.
